Do you ever think back to how you spent your time as a kid and wonder what would have happened if you made that your career? Like, what would have happened if you just listened to that inner knowing of your 5-year-old self?
No matter what you do for a living, this guest will show you how staying connected to your creativity will always keep you on track through the highs and lows of entrepreneurship (and life).
Derrick Aubie is a powerhouse entrepreneur, passionate creator, electric scooter enthusiast and the president and founder of Sonic Image Audio Visual. He’s a big part of why this show exists and that’s incredibly on-brand for him. The roster of entrepreneurs he has generously supported in Greater Moncton over the years is too long to list.
We talk about how he started his career from a Christmas stocking when he was 5 years old, the moment in March 2020 when he realized that his entire business had stopped in its tracks, and rebuilding bigger and better than ever.
When did you know?
Derrick kicked off our conversation with stories from his childhood of taking apart & reassembling household items like the family VCR (kind of a big deal in the nineties). His parents always supported his creativity when many might have been fearful or frustrated… did you catch the part where he talks about touching wires together?
This led to adventures in music, audio production and eventually, entrepreneurship. Derrick’s mission stays simple: to continue creating a place where he loves to go to work with great people and make great things.
He emphasized the importance of being creative in his work and life - a true love of making something that didn’t exist before.
About Moncton?
I love talking about the community - Moncton - with Derrick because I’ve had the opportunity to see him contribute in very generous and meaningful ways over the years. Derrick shared that he sees Moncton as a place where you can truly create anything and I couldn’t agree more.
We talked about the local businesses making his life better these days and he was quick to shout out Bob Lee Productions, The Dieppe Market (shout out to Jim Kent), Happy Brewing and the Tide & Boar Brewery. Make sure you check them out too.
